Id like to touch on the subject of smoking while pregnant. Its a bad idea. I think everyone knows its a bad idea but yet I still see women from time to time doing it.

When youre smoking with a baby inside you, the fetus is not getting enough oxygen. Its like holding your breath for 30 seconds, every time you smoke! Youre putting the baby at risk for miscarriage, premature birth, low birth weight and a whole host of complications!

I once heard a pregnant woman say I heard if I quit cold turkey it will actually cause more stress to the baby than smoking does, so I just keep smoking

This is a very dangerous myth! It is based on some factual information that if you are a very heavy smoker (2+ packs a day) and you quit abruptly it can cause seizures, and put you at risk for miscarriage. But that is still not an excuse to keep smoking. What it means is you should taper down as fast as possible until you are down to a handful of cigarettes a day and then quit.

If you are a normal smoker of a pack or less per day, you should find a way to quit immediately.

Please dont think Im beating you up, youre not a bad person, you just have a bad habit and the fact that youre reading this means you are interested in quitting. It really is the best thing you can do to protect the well being of your baby.

The best case scenario is to quit before becoming pregnant if possible, because stop smoking medications like patches, gum, and Chantix are not safe for the fetus.

If its too late to do that and you still need assistance you should look into hypnotherapy. Hypnotherapy, in particular NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) based hypnotherapy is the best way for expecting moms to stop smoking. It satisfies all the important criteria: its all natural; it is effective and has a high success rate, and it does work for many people. Its very simple to use; you dont have to see a professional. With NLP all you have to do is listen to a specially designed audio recording to give up smoking.

You may also want look into acupuncture. Acupuncture can detoxify the body of nicotine, science has confirmed that smokers develop higher levels of nicotine-induced endorphins, and acupuncture stimulates the nervous system naturally to regulate the amount of endorphins in the body and helps clear away nicotine buildup. Unlike the patch, acupuncture actually rids the body of nicotine instead of adding more to it.
Acupuncture helps to eliminate the mental and physical withdrawal symptoms It is highly effective in calming, and relaxing the mind, enhancing the ability to concentrate, minimizing anxiety and alleviating depression. In addition, acupuncture successfully suppresses appetite and diminishes food cravings.

The method you choose is not important. What is important is that you protect the health of both yourself and your unborn baby by kicking the habit as quickly as possible.
